Schools Reopening: School uniforms not mandatory says Education Director

Goa Education Director, Bhushan Savaikar has stated that school uniforms will not be mandatory for students once they resume offline classes. Goa schools are set to reopen offline from February 21, 2022.

In a circular issued by the Directorate of Education, schools were asked to hold exams only in offline mode and school uniforms should not be insisted upon by authorities. Goa schools will be reopening from February 21, 2022, onwards for Classes 1 to 12. 

Goa schools were instructed to reopen after the state witnessed a decline in COVID cases and infections. An order regarding the same was issued by the Directorate of Education.  

“As COVID-19 cases are reducing day by day in the state, it is decided by the competent authority to reopen all the educational institutions from standard first to standard twelfth with effect from February 21, 2022, by following COVID-19- appropriate behaviour and as per SOP guidelines,” stated an order issued by the Director of Education, Goa on Thursday, February 17, regarding re-opening of schools in the state. 

Since exams for Goa will be conducted offline, the date sheets for Class 10 and 12 students have been issued by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE). The exams for both the classes will begin from April 5, 2022 and conclude on April 26 for SSC Class 10 and April 22, 2022 for HSC Class 12 Students.  

Goa recorded 103 fresh cases as of Thursday, February 17, 2022. The count of active COVID cases in the state has dropped to 1227 and the positivity rate however rose to 5.7%
